Title: Ambrosia
Rating: PG-13 (for now)
Genre: general romance, slight humour
Warnings: none yet
Bands/Pairings: Reita/Ruki [Gazette]
Disclaimers: standard disclaimers apply, unfortunately.
Summary: Reita had never really thought about it that way before, because their relationship was just something that... was. It wasn't weird, or unnatural to him, it just... was. Maybe it was about time he tried to figure out exactly what it was.
Notes: I claimed Reita/Ruki at
30emotions. that means 30 reituki fics! or probably somewhat less, since I may combine some of them. or I might just make one long fic out of all of them. anyway, I'm starting at the beginning, so this chapter is Theme #1 - Amusement, and Theme #2 - Anxiety. also, the meaning of "ambrosia" (as in the flower) is "your love is returned". or some sappy shit like that :p
"Stop laughing," Ruki grumbled for what might have been the fifth or sixth time, he wasn't keeping count. Reita was, though, and couldn't contain his giggles as he watched the significantly shorter man stretching and reaching for the pack of cigarettes sitting on top of the fridge, failing to retrieve them but succeeding in thoroughly amusing the bassist. "Fuck you, Rei! Why don't you help me instead of sitting there grinning like an idiot?"
"Cos, you told me not to." Reita remarked, stretching his legs out over the couch that was completely his now that Ruki had vacated it, still smirking as he watched the futile struggles Ruki was making to reclaim his cigarettes from the heights of the fridge. He made a very aggravated sound, and slumped against the front of the fridge, sending Reita evil glares from the one eye that wasn't pressed up against the door.
"I hate you."
"No you don't."
"Why do you have to be so damn mean?" Ruki growled. "Why can't you just help me out?"
"You told me to put those up there so that you wouldn't be tempted to smoke." Reita said smugly, folding his arms behind his head. Ruki turned his head, so that both eyes were now focused on the other.
"But-"
"You also told me that I should not help you, no matter what you said," Reita continued, causing the furiosity of Ruki's glare to intensify upon him. "Because it's a terrible habit and it's bad for you and you really want to quit."
Ruki opened his mouth as if to argue, but it seemed that he couldn't think of a decent reply, because he quickly snapped his jaw shut again, slouching a little bit more against the fridge door, one arm still reaching up slightly over the top edge of the shelf for the elusive box of cigarettes. "Did I... did I say that?"
"Yes, you did."
Ruki chewed on his lip. "Well, I... I take it back."
"You can't take it back!"
"Well..." He huffed, features scrunched up into an expression of annoyance. "Shut up. This is why I hate you."
"You love me, and you know it." Reita crowed.
"In your dreams!"
"You'd like that, wouldn't you?"
"I'd like to have a fucking cigarette, is what I'd like," Ruki scowled. He gave a long, pointedly heavy sigh and then gave up reaching for the smokes, stalked back over to the couch, and unceremoniously shoved Reita's legs out of the way so that he could have his seat back. He didn't give the bassist a second glance as he went tumbling off the couch, humming to himself and ignoring the glares he was now on the receiving end of courtesy of one irritated blonde.
"You don't have to be an ass about it."
"What's that? You have to have my ass, you say?" Ruki cooed, studying his fingernails.
"You wish," Reita retorted, climbing back up and pushing the other back to his side of the couch. He plopped himself down, shoulder-to-shoulder with the grumpy vocalist, and pulled a pack of his own cigarettes out of his pocket, turning it over in his hands.
"Maybe I do wish."
"Hmm?"
"Maybe you should go home," Ruki snapped, baring his teeth at Reita, who was now placing the unlit cigarette between his lips. He frowned, and poked Ruki's cheek with the end of the white stick.
"Don't be bitchy about it."
"I'm not bitchy, I'm just..." He clenched his fists, growling under his breath. "Must you do that? You're making me really anxious."
"Sorry," Reita apologised halfheartedly, as he held up the cigarette he'd just lit, raising one nonexistent eyebrow at Ruki's skeptical expression. Ruki frowned warily, but then snatched it out of Reita's hand, his eyelids sliding shut as if in ecstasy as he put it to his lips and took a deep breath. Reita pulled out another one for himself, and lit it quickly, clouds of smoke furling over their heads.
"I don't even remember why you're here," Ruki remarked, chewing on the end of his smoke. He was much less tense now than a moment before, although he was still tapping his foot incessantly against the table, every few moments uncrossing his legs and adjusting his position on the couch, fidgeting endlessly.
"Huh?"
"Did you have a reason you came over? I don't remember what it was."
Reita shrugged, reaching for the ashtray on the table and setting it in his lap. "I dunno. Who cares? This is more fun anyway."
"If by 'fun', you mean 'boring', then yes. It is much, much more fun."
"Well, fine, then, let's do something if you're so bored!"
"I don't want to get up."
Reita groaned under his breath, puffing on his cigarette. "Well, what the fuck do you want to do?"
Ruki shrugged this time, causing the blonde to let out another irritated sigh. He put his feet up on the table, studying the smouldering end of his cigarette. "You're impossible."
"What about you?"
"What about me what?"
"What do you want to do?"
"I want to take a nap," Reita decided, and promptly he fell over into Ruki's lap, settling his head on Ruki's jean-clad thigh. Ruki stared down at the top of his head, clearly quite taken aback by the sudden action. He didn't seem to know what to say for a moment, and then he poked the back of Reita's head, frowning.
"Hey."
"Hey what?"
"Hey, you're in my lap, that's what." Ruki glared, even though Reita couldn't see it, fingers busily toying with the end of his cigarette.
"I'm going to sleep. Your lap is the perfect height for my head." Reita yawned, still smoking the last bits of his cigarette. He reached for the ashtray and ground the butt into the charred plastic bottom, and then handed it up to Ruki. "Please, don't get ash in my hair."
"Maybe I should set your fucking hair on fire!" Ruki grumbled, but he took the ashtray anyway.
"Maybe you should go fuck yourself and let me sleep."
"See, this is why I hate you so much." Ruki said quietly. There was no answer, and he silently finished smoking and then set the ashtray aside, sighing softly, causing Reita's hair to ruffle. He tapped one foot nervously against the side of the couch, resting his hand gently on the top of Reita's head. He could hear the bassist's breath slowing and he petted his head, momentarily pondering how surprisingly soft Reita's hair was, despite all the harsh treatment it endured. A moment later, he was quite glad that Reita couldn't see his face and was turned the other way, because his cheeks were heating up in what was unmistakably a blush.
"Hey... Reita?" He leaned over as far as he could, trying to peer into the other's face to see if he was listening or not. "Are you sleeping?"
"I'm trying to," Reita muttered.
"Sorry. I don't really hate you, though."
"I know you don't hate me," The blonde replied in a tone that suggested that, had his eyes been open, he would have been rolling them at Ruki. "You love me."
Ruki didn't reply. He kept his hand on Reita's head, tilting his face up towards the ceiling. He closed his eyes, silent for a very long time, until Reita was truly asleep and Ruki's head was heavy with all the thoughts spinning around inside it.
"Yeah... guess I do."

I only vaguely have the plot thought up - which basically means that I have the ending figured out, but I haven't thought about any of the stuff that goes in between here and there. so anyway, I hope it turns out to be okay. sorry the first chapter is short, but... it is only the first one.
